SCHOOL AND SPORTS PHYSICALS
Sports physicals help determine whether it’s safe for a child or adolescent to participate in physical activity.
SCHOOL & SPORT PHYSICALS
Beach Kids Pediatrics offers school and sports physicals. An up-to-date school physical is required for a child to enter public or private school. The school physical includes an immunization record and medical instructions for children with special health requirements, such as a life-threatening food allergy or asthma.
A sports physical is a medical examination that determines whether it is safe for your child to participate in a sport, camp or activity. Most high school sports require a sports physical for participation.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR CHILD’S SPORTS PHYSICAL
As your child’s pediatrician, we will have the necessary medical records to complete a sports physical. Sports physicals are also offered in an urgent care setting if there isn’t time for a scheduled appointment. You can expect the medical professional to ask about the following health conditions:
Any prior fractures, sprains or strains
Concussions screening
Heat related illness
Asthma or exercise induced asthma
Fainting
List of current medications prescription and over-the-counter
During the physical examination the following health assessments will be made:
Height
Weight
Blood Pressure
Respirations
Irregular heartbeat
Flexibility
Muscle strength
Posture/scoliosis screening
Sports physicals are important to determine if there are any underlying conditions or health problems that could affect your child’s ability to participate. If your child is ever injured while participating in a sporting event, a completed sports physical will enable a doctor to diagnose an injury or refer your child to the appropriate medical professional for further evaluation.
